When I first wrote My Nonno Loves, I wanted to create a book that celebrated the special relationship between children and their grandparents. It was inspired by my own Nonno and all the little things that made him so special, the things he loved, the things we did together, and the memories that stay with us long after someone is gone.
So, seeing those words and illustrations appear on one of Australia’s most beloved children’s programs was incredibly unbelievable!
From a family story to Play School
One of the lovely things about writing a children’s book is never quite knowing where the story will travel.
When Claudia and I created My Nonno Loves, we were thinking about our own family. Claudia brought the characters to life through her beautiful illustrations, while I wrote about those familiar moments of connection, love and family.
And then suddenly, the story was being shared with children and families all around Australia.
Having My Nonno Loves appear on Play School felt like another beautiful chapter in that journey.
Play School has been part of so many Australian childhoods, including my own, so seeing my book become part of the program was simply a dream come true.
